Solar outshines other renewables
More still needs to be done
Hello,
In the honour of Earth Day on April 22, today’s post is dedicated to our efforts in transitioning to clean energy
DATA STORY
Made with Vizzlo
2023 was the best year ever for renewable energy!
Globally, total installed capacity increased by +473 gigawatts (GW), thanks largely to Solar, which has now beaten Hydro to be the #1 source of renewable energy.
Renewables now sit at 43% of all global power capacity (i.e. incl. fossil fuels)
However, we are still not doing enough.
To meet our Climate Change goals of limiting avg temperature rise to 1.5o C and achieve net zero emissions by 2050, we have to install 11,000 GW of renewables capacity by 2030, or an addition of +1050GW every year! So we have to top our best year ever by 120%.
Do you think we will reach 11,000 GW of renewables power capacity by 2030? |
